Dr Benjamin Knowles was a Medical Officer of the Bekwai District of Ashanti in the 1920s, with a wife known as a 'scold' who often violently berated him.
In October 1928 she was found shot in the stomach and on her deathbed, persuaded by her husband, said the gun had gone off accidentally. The story was not believed and he was tried for murder.
