Having been authored by one of the leading authorities on arbitration in the UAE, Blanke on UAE Arbitration Legislation and Rules will provide indispensable guidance to both counsel and arbitrators in their daily UAE arbitration practice apart from being a unique reference for anyone involved in the subject. To that end, the work contains the usual front and end matter to ease navigation throughout Parts I to III and comprehensive appendices that provide access to the full text of relevant legislation and regulations of relevance to UAE arbitration in English translation.

The work is divided into a total of three parts:

  • Part I provides a general introduction to arbitration in the UAE, introducing the reader to the on-and offshore landscape of UAE arbitration.
  • Part II updates the article-by-article commentary on the former UAE Arbitration Chapter that formed the core of the first edition of this work given that a significant body of case law developed by the UAE courts under that Chapter retains its relevance in the interpretation of the UAE Federal Arbitration Law 2018 (FAL), which entered into force, with effect from 16 June 2018, repealing the provisions of the UAE Arbitration Chapter.
  • Part III provides an article-by-article commentary of the provisions of the FAL as well as the provisions of Council Decision No. 57/2018, which entered into force with effect from 16 February 2019, repealing Arts 235 through to 238 of the UAE Arbitration Chapter, and established a new, expedited regime for the recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards in the UAE.
