This work, a successor to the authors Sentencing Law and Practice (2000), provides a comprehensive analysis of Irish sentencing law and makes extensive use of comparative material from other common-law jurisdictions.
As well as dealing with general principles, there are several chapters devoted to the sentencing of specific offences. The book includes a detailed analysis of the Children Act 2001, the Sex Offenders Act 2001 and the possible implications of the European Convention on Human Rights for the Irish sentencing system.
