The work investigates the use of criminal law sanctions to support company law rules. In order to do so the company law purpose of the rules is explained and the utility of the application of criminal sanctions explored. The work breaks new ground as, firstly, there has been little UK analysis of the purpose served by many company law rules, secondly, there are no studies which investigate criminal sanctions in this context, and lastly, novel alternative approaches are suggested.

Contents:
The background to the criminal provisions; insider dealing; fraudulent and wrongful trading; company director disqualification; money laundering; mainstream criminal law; Section 151 and Part X of the Companies Act 1985; investigations and the right to silence; the way forward.
