The Race Relations (Amendments) Act 2000 imposes enforceable new duties on all public bodies including the police and prisons to avoid race discrimination. It puts into place a key recommendation of the McPherson Report, namely that the Race Relations Act 1976 should extend to policing.
This book provides an overview of the Act with reference to the principles of direct and indirect race discrimination (of which little knowledge is assumed). Advice on practice and procedure for litigating a claim under the Act is also given.
