The Guide to Local Authority Charging and Trading Powers was first published as a special edition by Longmans in 1995.
When the Localism Act 2011 was introduced it remained necessary for local authorities to be aware of the pre-existing law on charging powers.
The book contains two sections – Part A on LA trading and Part B - a compendium of local authority charging powers. It also contains all the public bodies designated under the Local Authorities (goods and services) Act 1970 with whom local authorities can trade (without the need to set up a company).
It is an invaluable aid to local authorities and law firms advising local authorities as a research and reference tool, particularly in times of austerity when councils are seeking ways to lawfully generate additional income through charging and/or commercialize through establishing LA trading companies.
