Although Part One of the Civil Code celebrates a decade and a half since its enactment, the final Part Four has been in force for about eighteen months. The “economic constitution” of the Russian Federation required not only some twelve years to be drafted and enacted, but as the keystone legal document in the transition from a socialist Planned Economy to a market-based economic system.
The present text contains Parts One, Two, Three, and Four of the Civil Code, as amended. It constitutes the complete Civil Code as contemplated by Russian civil law doctrine. The translation of the Civil Code is based on the official text published in the official gazette and as integrated on the legal data base provided by Consultant Plus.
