During the 1990s, there were two major developments within the Common EU Martitime Transport Policy (CMTP) - the establishment of European Union policies on safe seas and on short-shipping. While analyzing and appraising these and other developments to the CMTP in this period, this text is in essence a study of Europeanization. It focuses on both the academic environment of maritime transport and the interaction of policy-makers and organized interests during the policy-making process, with an emphasis on the political dimensions.;Reflecting on the debate on European integration, the book concludes that an internal EU policy arena with its own characteristics and complexity has grown considerably. Within this arena, the development of the Common Maritime Transport Policy turns a core part of European intergration.
