This guide on the Fair Housing Act Accessibility Guidelines, is inspired by the authors' review (on behalf of HUD) of 400 built projects and the most common mistakes encountered by their architects, builders, and developers. It explains which buildings and units are covered by the law, reviews the seven basic design and construction requirements, and provides concise interpretations with descriptive illustrations. It applies to a substantial portion of residential construction and shows how the FHA Accessibility Guidelines relate to the forthcoming International building code as well as the existing three model codes.
