The Commentary on the UAE Arbitration Chapter was first published electronically under the title Annotated Guide to Arbitration in the UAE Volume I: The UAE Arbitration Chapter in February 2014 on Westlaw Gulf, Thomson Reuters' electronic platform specializing on the laws and regulations of the Gulf countries.

The Annotated Guide originates in the Thomson Reuters Annotations Project, to which I was invited to contribute on all arbitration-specific matters in around 2013. The Annotations Project aims to provide coherent commentary in the English language of all laws and regulations of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in an article -by-article format in order to make their content and application by the competent local courts easily accessible to international practitioners with an interest in legal transactions and disputes governed by UAE law.

In its present format, the Commentary on the UAE Arbitration Chapter is divided into two parts:-

  • Part I provides an introduction to the practice and pro-cedure of UAE arbitration more generally, essentially focusing on arbitrations seated in the UAE, including more specifically mainland or onshore Dubai and Abu Dhabi
  • Part II provides and article-by-article commentary on the UAE Arbitration Chapter. The commentary is based on over 650 UAE court rulings relevant to arbitration
