Some time ago I promised myself to try and write the Family Story. Now I have done it. And I offer it for you to read. It is 'a tale that is told' by me.

In weaving the tapestry I have used many colours . I have drawn many pictures. To keep your interest. I make occasional references to history, even though I am no historian. I quote from literature. So often that it is almost an anthology. I cite from law cases. Because truth is stranger than fiction. Debates in the Lords. They come in as well. I make passing allusions to persons. None, I hope, disparaging but if so, quite uintentional.

I tell of peace and of war. I tell of failure and success. I tell of right-doing and wrong-doing.I tell it from a lifetime which spans the greater part of the 20th Century. I tell it for you and those who come after you - in case they should wish to know how we carried on - in our time.
