Lincoln's Inn, one of the four Inns of Court, possesses continuous records since 1422, when it was already an established institution for the training of lawyers.
The traditional founder was believed to be the third earl of Lincoln but evidsnce in Stow's Survey of London, published in 1598, throws doubt on this. The recent discovery of a narrative sixty years earlier than Stow suggests that tradition is right.
Sir Ronald Roxburgh's study reassesses the tradition and the relsvent documents inthe light of this discovery and other more recent ones in the Middle Temple.
