It is more than 30 years since the first edition of this book appeared. In this, the seventh edition, the administration of appellate justice, the police, the composition of the House of Lords, and Commonwealth immigration are among the subjects discussed in the light of recent statutory changes.

The chapters on administrative law and on local government have been enlarged and in part re-written. The changed conception of the Commonwealth has made possible adjustments which now restrict the treatment of constitutional relations to the historical aspects of legal severance from the United Kingdom, though a brief account of the older federal constitutions is retained.

The general outline of the work remains in much the same form as hitherto.
