In the year 1872 I employed my not overburdened professional time in writing Buckley on the Companies Acts. Now, well over half a century later, my son Denys has employed some of his not overburdened professional time in assisting his co-editors to prepare the eleventh edition. I have been able myself to give some assistance.

In my preface to the tenth edition I wrote that " I cannot myself expect to see any edition subsequent to this." Time and the Legislature have shown me to have been wrong. The Act of 1929 has rendered obsolete the Acts of 1908 and 1928, and has rendered obsolete, also, my tenth edition so far as this country is concerned.

After a short life of some six years the tenth edition has for this country died a natural death. In Mr. Gordon Brown and Mr. Gibson I have been so fortunate as to secure for the eleventh edition the same able and diligent editors as were responsible for the tenth. In adding to their names the name of my son I am glad to think that I am preserving and continuing in relation to Company Law the familiar name of Buckley.
