Edgar Lustgarten specialised in this sort of book...it is the story of four trials in which the prisoner was aquitted of murder. The suthors writes: "I do not suggest that any of the four prisoners should have been acquitted, but I do suggest that all of them would have been convicted had they not been shielded by remarkable defenders."

The prisoners are: Adelaide Bartlett, who was accused of poisoning her husband; Robert Wood, accused of killing a prostitute; Elvira Barney, accused of shooting her lover; and Tony Mancini, of the Brighton Trunk Murder Case.
