Child & Co at the sign of the Marygold, by Temple Bar has been conducting business at No. 1 Fleet Street for more than 330 years.

With a history going back to 1584, its present name first appeared in 1681 when Francis Child inherited the existing goldsmith's business by marriage. Child's banking shop rapidly prospered, becoming the firts bank to provide a private banking service.

In 1973, on the occasion of the 300th Anniversary of the establishment of the bank at Fleet Street, it was decided to mark the Bank's close association with the leal profession by offering to the Council of Legal Education an annual sum of money for the advancement of legal knowledge.As a result, a series of annual Lectures was inaugurated to be delivered at the Inns of Court School of Law.

The Lectures, usually delivered in March, are printed as booklets of about 12 to 20 pages and consist of the following:-
