Thomas Jarman was the second son of Francis Jarman of Bath; he was called to the bar by Middle Temple on February 10, 1826.

Besides Jarman on Wills, which was published in three parts between 1841 and 1843, Mr Jarman's name is associated with other books on conveyancing ans wills (Bythewood's Conveyancing and Hayes and Jarman's Concise Forms of Wills)

A man of poor health, Mr Jarman worked much in the open air and on one occasion is reported to have been found by a friend standing at a desk under a treee in one of his fields, wth law books all around him. But physical infirmity and constant illness did not deprive him of success as a practitioner, and at the time of his death he was one of the Conveyancing Counsel to the Court of Chancery.
